the Voice
Channeling the stadium-size scope of neotraditional Country, Mack Geiger’s music evokes the vastness of the Australian landscape, yet the lyrics are as intimate and natural as a candid everyday conversation. The 21-year-old Queensland-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist tells timeless stories worthy of listening to by a campfire or pulling up a stool at the bar to hear more closely. After buzzing with tens of millions of streams, he officially introduces himself on a series of 2026 releases via his label home, RECORDS Nashville/Columbia Records.
“I aim to share the stories of people like my own family,” he comments. “I’m shining a light on our way of life. When you listen to me, I hope you envision remote and regional Australia, the wide-open spaces, and working-class folks. A few laughs, a few tears, and a lot of honesty.”
Growing up an hour away from school and seven hours outside of the nearest major city of Brisbane, he initially embraced Country music during long-haul drives in his family’s eight-seater van with his four younger siblings. Once the kids started fighting, mom and dad would crank the tunes, spinning CDs by Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, and many more. His parents built up their farm from nothing, engaging their children to work alongside them and imparting a deep appreciation of the land upon them. “As a kid, some of my favorite memories are mustering and branding cattle with Mum, Dad, and us five kids, just keeping the wheels rolling,” he smiles.
Along the way, dad taught Geiger his first four chords on the acoustic guitar. From there, he immersed himself in the instrument thanks to YouTube. Throughout high school, he emerged “runner-up” at a local busking competition which led him to grace the bill of the Gympie Music Muster festival. Following high-school graduation, he took a job at a bigger cattle station in Northwestern Queensland. He continued to play local rodeos and campdrafts, often delivering six-hour cover sets.
Even after moving to Brisbane in order to study for a career as a paramedic, he never stopped playing shows and writing songs. “Music didn’t seem like a realistic or sustainable option, but it’s what I loved,” he humbly notes.
At the same time, he shored up a signature “neotraditional” style of his own inspired by U.S. icons as well as cult favorite Australian troubadour, Slim Dusty.
“When I write songs, I’m drawing from places within myself, even if I’m telling someone else's story,” he goes on. “I draw inspiration from a diverse range of music, but seventies, eighties and nineties Country eras are generally the strongest.”
All of these elements converge on the single “Campdraft Queen.” Named after the Australian horse sport of “Campdrafting,” the track’s electric guitar kicks up dust, a steady beat simmers, and bright fiddle shines. Geiger sets the scene, going on to recall, “I was nothing but a rough and rowdy station hand, got introduced to a young blonde governess.” He proceeds to playfully pursue the title character, and he’s “spinning her round, buying her drinks” as if in the middle of a campdrafting competition. Finally, he makes a confession on the chorus, “I was tryna play it cool but busting at the seams, tryna keep up with the ‘Campdraft Queen’.”
“It’s set at the bar after a campdraft and taking fancy to a ‘filly’ there,” he elaborates. “Confidence is key, you’ve just got to have a crack, take that chance, throw yourself in the deep end,” he laughs. “The effort ends up paying off and he leaves with the prize. It’s the thrill of chase.”
During 2025, he initially made waves with “About Time,” peaking in the Top 40 of the CountryTown Australia chart. However, “String By” catalyzed his international breakthrough. It climbed to the Top 30 on the Spotify Viral 50 USA, Top 50 of the Billboard Hot Country Chart, and Top 40 of the Global Country Shazam Chart. Moreover, he received invites to the stages of CountryFest, Lasso Country Music Festival, Meatstock Toowoomba, and CMC Rocks. After joining Warren Zeiders on tour, making his CMA Fest debut, and launching his first-ever U.S. headline run with the New Dirt, Same Boots 2026 Tour, Geiger recently marked another major career milestone with his debut at the Grand Ole Opry before hitting the road with Drake Milligan.
Ultimately, Geiger has the power to resonate far beyond Australia and in every corner of the world.
“I’m just a Country-raised honky-tonk ringer and sad song singer,” he leaves off with a grin. “I’m trying to capture what I go through and see. There’s a lot of vulnerability and truth. Country music.”
